Last Chance for Ghost Hunts at Missenden Abbey

Missenden Abbey

As I recently mentioned in Fortean Times (Sept  2025) what is likely to be the last chance for some time  to visit  haunted Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire is now upon us.

Missenden Abbey is set to close on 30 November  2025 following a decision by its owners the Buckinghamshire New University that it should be sold.

So if you're keen to visit the advice is get in quick

Missenden Abbey was first investigated in 1972 by ghost hunter Andrew Green (1927-2004) following reports of low-level paranormal activity. the then warden Mr M. Lloyd acknowledged sightings of a Victorian era woman in a  black or grey crinoline dress and odd physical incidents such as an ashtray splitting in half of its own accord with the pieces placed on a bedroom floor. The same year a phantom monk was seen in the grounds and accounts of activity have continued sporadically ever since.

In July 2024 staff at the Abbey told me of hearing footsteps early in the morning on the main staircase.  More recently still visiting groups of ghost hunters say they have had interesting results during nocturnal vigils - perhaps the impending  closure has acted as a stimulant for manifestations!
